Street Date: September 2, 2008

New York, NY, July 30, 2008 – Acclaimed indie band The Mommyheads (Adam Elk, Dan Fisherman, Michael Holt and Jeff Palmer) have been said to possess a “perfect balance of tenacious instrumentation and expert chops, radio-friendly tunes and provocative lyrics” and have been credited as a precursor band for “Emo pop” a decade before it emerged onto the music scene.

Now, ten years after their debut self-titled release on Geffen Records, The Mommyheads are back with a new CD You’re Not a Dream – due for release September 2nd 2008. The band’s line up includes its original players Adam, Jeff, Mike and Dan, and the first single off the CD “Help Me” will be available on iTunes®.

Following the death of The Mommyheads’ drummer, Jann Kotik, in the winter of 2007, the band came together and decided to reform to honor their friend. “I don’t think any of us knew how hard Jan’s passing would hit us. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to confront. It sounds like the biggest cliché in the world, but it also put, for us as a band, everything into perspective. Suddenly we all felt an immediacy, a sense of having to say what we have to say right now,“ says lead singer and guitarist, Adam Elk.

On February 7, 2008, Kotik’s birthday, The Mommyheads re-formed to play a tribute concert for Kotik, along with other artists and friends of the band. Feeling the same kind of excitement as before, the experience convinced the group to go back into the studio to record a new CD, as well as tour in support of the new project.

A mixture of unreleased, update material from the late 90’s as well newly arranged tracks, You’re Not a Dream is classic Mommyheads. Jeff Palmer’s remarkable bass grounds the CD in a solid, groove state, while Dan Fisherman drumming is as athletic as it is accomplished. Michael Holt deft keyboard and vocals are the perfect accompaniment to Adam Elk effortless vocals and poignant guitar work. Additionally, Elk produced You’re Not a Dream.

“Listening to the new record remined me why I loved the Mommyheads back in the ’90s,” says veteran rock critic Bud Scoppa. “It shows clearly how ahead of the curve they were. They combined the tunefulness and wit that we associate with Death Cab for Cutie with the rhythmic punch of Spoon. It’s amazing that the Mommyheads perfected all that well over a decade ago. I hope they finally get their due with this album.”

The Mommyheads will launch their new CD with a limited national tour beginning in San Francisco at the Café Du Nord on September 3rd, followed by Portland’s Ron Tom’s Club on September 5th; The Jewel Box Theater in Seattle on September 6th; Brooklyn’s Union Hall on September 10th; Arlene’s Grocery in New York on September 11th and a Boston Harbor Cruise on September 12th.
